NARHA Interactive Vaulting Certification

The purpose of the certification is to determine if a candidate possesses the professionalism, experience and skill level to meet the NARHA Interactive Vaulting Instructor criteria.  Criteria have been developed which outline the skills and knowledge an instructor must possess in order to achieve certification as a NARHA Interactive Vaulting Instructor. These criteria can be found in the Interactive Vaulting Certification Application Booklet.

 

 

Prerequisites for Interactive Vaulting Certification Applicants

Certification: Applicant must be a current NARHA certified riding instructor (registered, advanced or master level)
Age: applicant must be at least 21 years of age
Training: applicant must have completed a NARHA interactive vaulting workshop within two years of application submission date (cannot be completed consecutively with certification)
Practice hours: applicants must have completed minimum 50 practice hours to include
  • 50 total hours (May not count hours twice; for example teaching hours cannot be counted for lungeing* hours.)
  • 20 hours teaching Interactive Vaulting
  • 30 hours lungeing*
Formal application: applicant must submit a completed NARHA Interactive Vaulting Instructor Application

 

Components to be evaluated during the certification

  • The lungeing* component: Candidates will be assigned one horse with which to demonstrate a five-minute warm up, and ten-minute lungeing* component. In addition candidates will have a five-minute oral exam. 

  • The compulsories component: Candidates will be asked to teach compulsories to a volunteer vaulter for 15 minutes and five-minutes to demonstrate compulsories themselves.

  •  The interactive vaultinginstruction component: Candidates will be asked to teach a 20-minute interactive vaulting lesson

*NARHA acknowledges that both spellings '"lungeing" and "longeing" are correct and used in the literature when discussing use of the horse on a circle. NARHA uses the spelling "lungeing" in all documents.
