Deadlines are Feb 1, May 1 and September 1

ARTICLES
Please send your manuscript in the following format to Pam Kaster, newsletter editor at ride4ever@cox.net and Ann Alden aca@bmi.net

Be sure to include your phone number so we can call you if necessary.
You must be available daily by email and phone for about two weeks after submission so that we can follow up with you on details.

If you do not get a confirmation by email within 24 hours that we received your submission, call Pam Kaster at (225) 658-2323.

In one Word document, using any typeface and size, format your submission in the following way:  (see a previous EFMHA News for format.)

  • Title of Article

  • Your article in Word, about 600 - 1500 words.

  • Byline following title

  • Paragraphs defined by indent, not line space

  • Subheads every few paragraphs, not indented

  • Bio in a paragraph (max. 60 words) at end of article

ALSO in this email, send the following photos and captions. Please note that mounted riders in photos must wear a safety helmet and ground work with horses must show observance of safety procedures:

  • JPEG: bio photo , entitled bio (your last name)

  • JPEG photos  for article – at least two -  with titles that tie in with captions and your article name.

  • Word Doc: caption for each photo referenced to title of photo

About Captions:
The caption should explain or  enhance your article in about 30 words or less.   For instance “A program rider grooms his favorite horse.”
doesn’t add anything to the subject of your article.  But the same photo in an article on group therapy with a caption something like this
does: “When riders groom their horses before experiencing a trail ride, they learn tactile communication skills that are later explored in group
therapy sessions.”  Basically, if someone just read the photo captions, they should come away with a sense of what your article might offer.
The captions are an invitation to read your article to find out more on the subject.

  • JPEG: other appropriate art with caption, when available

We will communicate with you about any editorial needs and you will have a chance to review the final article with 24 hours turnaround.  If you are not available when we send the News out for proofing, we will have to go ahead with the printing process without your review.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

We request that you follow these guidelines so that we as volunteers can share with you the many hours we spend with the details involved in sending an EFMHA News issue to the printer. When your entry is received, you can expect to hear back from us within a few days. Please check your email for our confirmation that your entry is received and OK as is. If your entry does not follow these guidelines or there are other problems, we will send it back to you for editing to be returned to us within 2 days. Please check your email for these communications so that you can work within our timeline. If we do not hear back from you, we will not run your piece in that issue of EFMHA News.
