Region IV Meeting Minutes – November 10, 2005

Minutes:  Deb Hauser read last meeting minutes.  Kathy Glew moved to approve, Bill Lavie seconded the motion.  Minutes were approved.

Treasurer’s report: 

Scholarship winners for National Conference this year; one from Reg. IV – Christine Flowers, Congrats!  Kathy Glew and Sandy Webster volunteered to be the new Scholarship Review Committee.

Julie Peterson, from Kentucky, is the Region IV Volunteer of the Year.  She could not be here; Denise Guinn will accept the award for her at the banquet. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Shadow of O.A.T.S. in Michigan is the Region IV Horse of the Year. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Corral:  Information for this publication needs to be to Deb Hauser by the 10th of the month.  This is a GREAT  way to publicize what is happening in the region.  Please take advantage of this valuable tool.

Website:  The NARHA website is undergoing renovation.  Michigan asked Deb Hauser to share a request that the list serve for Region IV be further organized with ‘Tabs’ for each state in the Reg. for easier access and available for states to highlight what ever info they would like on the site specific to their state. 

STATE REPORTS:

Indiana: 

National Conference for next year will be in Indianapolis, IN.  Theme: Winners Circle.  The dates are Nov. 8th through the 11th.  Deb H. and Debbie Anderson will welcome all to Indiana at the banquet Sat. evening. Sandy Carbone, is the Committee Chair. Please contact her with any assistance or questions. loveway@kconline.com   We are  excited to have Temple Grandin as our guest speaker, and the horse fair at the  Hoosier Horse park. More exciting updates to come!!!

Ohio:

New state chair is Jen Rearick.  There was no state meeting with the changes in state chair position.

Michigan:

Michigan had a successful state meeting as an Education Day last May.  The research results will be presented at the Reg. IV conf. in the spring.  Bonnie DePue is the outgoing co-chair and Kim Henning is the Michigan State Chair. 

Ontario:

Sandy Webster is the new chair for Ontario. The NARHA REg Reps had an opportunity to visit CARD, in April 2006 when they had their ‘Summit” meeting in Toronto. CARD, is a dual member/certified NARHA and a CANTRA center. They have a large horse show that all in the region is invited to on May 27-28.  There will be dressage, trail, and obstacle classes.  Passport of individuals, birth certificates for children, written permission of children not accompanied by their parent, coggins test within 6 months, and papers within 30 days are required to cross the boarder.  Please come and join in the fun.

Kentucky:

March 2-4 will be the Region IV Conference at the State Horse Park in Lexington, KY. Lisa Dean, committee chair, LMDkidpower@aol.com  Arrangements have been made with the Holiday Inn North of Lexington with a day at the horse park.  Speakers are being confirmed, Bonnie DePue has volunteered to organize the silent auction/door prizes and requests individuals to email her with info on items they are donating or securing for the auction.  Her email is bonnied@triton.net .  Denise is the volunteer coordinator for the event and is requesting volunteers.  There are 3 tracts of info that will run simultaneously that involve input from the Instructor, Therapist, Administrator, and Equine Industry Representatives.  There will be 16   1 ˝ to 2 hour presentations to choose from.  Mike Richardson will be one of these.  A musical kur demonstration will follow Michael Richardson’s presentation.  Abstracts and bios from those confirmed presenters are needed for the brochure.  Please submit to Lisa Dean.  This conference has been opened up to Regions 3 & 5 in addition to our own Region IV.  The participant goal is 250 with a cost per person to be approximately $100.00 to $125.00.   There will be a CAT course offered Sat.evening.  A fund raising letter has been approved by NARHA to use in helping to get sponsors in any area of our region which will help keep costs down to participants. 

Liaison Reports:

AHA – Lisa Dean is the Region IV rep.  Kathy Splinter Watkins is the Kentucky State Liaison.  There will be information and possible changes concerning insurance issues that will be disseminated as it develops.  Debbie Silkwood-Sherer PT is the AHA Barbara Glassow Therapist of the Year for 2005.  Congrats Debbie!!

Driving – No report

Board Member – No report

New members welcomed:

Awards review committee:

Ace Raymond, Kathy Glew, and Pattie Wilson-Werth volunteered for the upcoming year.

Standards Review:

From the morning’s hearing, some wordage was changed but not the intent of the standards.

Vaulting;

EFMHA:  no changes were made

T-HPOT;

Region Representative:

After highlighting the Region Rep. responsibilities for the Region IV membership, Deb is requesting a volunteer to assist as region secretary to assist in facilitating with efficiency those responsibilities.  Deb’s current term ends Dec. 31 2006.  She has opened up nominations and suggests State Chairs recognize this as a natural progression from their position.  Deb was nominated for re-election as well by the Michigan State Chair.  Please contact Deb with other nominations.

Meeting was adjourned to State Caucuses. 

ADDITIONAL:  Region IV responded to the need for the Gulf Relief Fund with a donation of $1000.00.
