In one Word document, using Arial 10pt., format your submission in the following way:

  • Title of Article

  • Your article in MS Word, about 600 - 1500 words.

  • Byline following title

  • Paragraphs defined by indent, not line space

  • Subheads every few paragraphs, not indented

  • Bio in a paragraph (max. 60 words) at end of article

ALSO in this email, send the following photos and captions. Please note that mounted riders in photos must wear a safety helmet and ground work with horses must show observance of safety procedures:

  • JPEG: bio photo, entitled bio (your last name)

  • JPEG photos  for articleat least twowith titles that tie in with captions and your article name.

  • Word Doc: caption for each photo referenced to title of photo

About Captions:
The caption should explain or  enhance your article in about 20 words or less. For instance “A program rider grooms his favorite horse.”
doesn’t add anything to the subject of your article.  But the same photo in an article on group therapy with a caption something like this does: “When riders groom their horses before a trail ride, they learn tactile communication skills that are later explored in group
therapy sessions.”  Basically, if someone just read the photo captions, they should come away with a sense of what your article might offer.
The captions are an invitation to read your article to find out more on the subject.

  • JPEG or GIF files of other appropriate art with caption, when available

We will communicate with you about any editorial needs and you will have a chance to review the final article with 24 hours turnaround.  If you are not available when we send the News out for proofing, we will have to go ahead with the printing process without your review.
