Carroll College, a private, Catholic diocesan, liberal arts college, nestled in the foothills of the Rockies in Helena, Montana, is seeking a tenure track assistant professor in the Human Animal Bond program. The Human Animal Bond program is housed in the Department of Psychology and is a newly-emerging discipline at Carroll College. The HAB Program explores the unique relationship between humans and animals. By increasing knowledge about this bond and by assessing how animals enrich human lives, the Program goal is to provide students with both scientific and academic rigor and hands-on application of the knowledge gained to improve the quality of life for both humans and animals. The Program has two tracks: equine and canine. As such, Carroll College seeks candidates with expertise in either or both equine and/or canine teaching and learning. Position requires a minimum of a Masters Degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a related field which may include veterinary science, counseling, psychology, social work, physical or occupational therapy. Any course work related to animals and society or the human animal bond is highly valued. Course work in fundamentals of learning, counseling and understanding people with disabilities should be a component of your formal education. Applicants should be familiar with standards and philosophies of organizations in either field with may include EAGALA, NARAHA, EFMHA and EGEA or CCI, Delta Society, Assistance Dogs International, Search and Rescue organizations. The successful candidate will also possess a minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience working with dogs and/or horses and instruction in the field of canine and/or equine service or therapy training. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to work with dogs/horses and students as well as demonstrated ability to manage a program where students are responsible for the care and training of puppies and dogs and/or working with horses in physical or mental therapy.
