2008
NARHA Youth Equestrian of the Year Recognition Award
Nomination Information
All participants at NARHA centers are unique and deserve
recognition. But our centers are often graced by a youth equestrians
who are simply inspiring. An outstanding youth equestrian may be a star at horse
show competitions, or he may still be relying on two sidewalkers
and a horse leader to get around the area at a walk. But
whenever this youth appears the hearts and spirits of everyone
are transformed. Who do you have that deserves recognition as
NARHA’s 2008 Youth Equestrian of the Year?
For the
first time, this year NARHA will award an individual membership
to the NARHA 2008 Youth Equestrian of the Year. Your nominees
don’t need to be a NARHA member or join. It is our honor to
recognize this individual by welcoming him or her into the
community that appreciates the power of the horse to change
lives. And of course we hope he or she will be able to join us
at the 2008 NARHA National Conference and Annual Meeting Awards
banquet on Saturday, November 1.
Join us
in recognizing the 2007 Youth Equestrian of the Year!
In recommending Courtney Osiow for the Youth Equestrian
Recognition Award, NARHA Advanced Instructor Beth McClimans
wrote, “Since 1999, I have watched and participated in
Courtney’s progress: from riding with a leader and side walker,
to independent walk/ trot/ canter work, showing, beginning
horse management and training, and volunteer work. Amazingly,
Courtney has never shown an ounce of remorse for her disability.
She has taken an active role in creating adaptations so she could
succeed as a rider and now a program volunteer.”
Courtney is learning many skills at Saddle Pals Therapeutic
Center, in Sacramento, California, from riding and reading her
horse partners to leading groups of volunteers in many tasks and
mentoring others who are beginning equine
assisted activities and therapies. She is a tireless advocate for
therapeutic horsemanship and for people with disabilities.
