NARHA Volunteer of the Year Recognition Award
Nomination Information
It wouldn’t happen without their help. They dedicate more than
30,000 hours at NARHA centers every year. They work as side walkers
and leaders, provide office support, care for horses,
help with barn operations, build fences, mow grass,
scoop poop and offer hugs to participants, riders and
center staff. NARHA center volunteers rock the EAAT world.
For the
first time, this year NARHA will award an individual membership
to each NARHA 2008 Regional Volunteer of the Year. That’s
right. Your nominees don’t need to be a NARHA member or join. We want to recognize NARHA center program volunteers that are so
critical to the EAAT industry by giving regional winners a
one-year membership in NARHA. Add to that all the fuss we’ll
make over them at the 2008 NARHA National Conference and Annual
Meeting at the Awards Dinner on Saturday, November 1.
NARHA’s
2007 Volunteer of the Year Rocks!
 Dennis
Dutton
is a very special volunteer who clocked more than 500 hours of
unselfish service in 2006, and the year before and the year
before that. In fact, Dennis Dutton has been living that kind
of commitment to the SMILES Center in Darien, Wisconsin for 22
years!
Dennis Dutton was introduced to SMILES by his wife who was
volunteering for classes. Dennis assisted with classes, but he
could see that SMILES had moved to this new property with high
aspirations for money saving work and low know-how. So Dennis
dug right in. He can mend a fence, make hay while the sun
shines, fix equipment, plow the snow, and clean the manure pit. He can charm his family and the community into helping with the
chores and move quickly when he sees an opportunity to pursue a
donation from the giving community. And the horses love Dennis!
Volunteer Award Criteria:
Ø
The
volunteer must be at least 16 years old.
Ø
The
volunteer should not currently hold any NARHA instructor
certification
Ø
The
nominating center must have current NARHA center membership.
Ø
The
volunteer nominee must have been active in the center’s program
for the entire award year (November 2007 through present) and
still be active at the time of nomination.
Ø
Only one
nomination per center, please.
Ø
NARHA
centers are not eligible for the NARHA Volunteer of the Year
Award two years in a row.
Ø
Any
volunteer who has won volunteer of the year must wait six years
before being nominated again.
Ø
Include
names, addresses and phone numbers of the nominee’s local
newspaper, equine magazine and other appropriate publications.
Press releases will be sent for all award recipients.
Ø
Nominations
must be received by email no later than May 31, 2008.
Ø
Please do
not send any photographs at this time. The NARHA office will
contact you if photos are needed.
